UA Beginning Farmer and Rancher Program

AACD is working in partnership with The University of Arizona and many others to conduct workshops and field days for both beginning ranchers and beginning farmers in the southeast, central, northeast, and northwest regions of Arizona. Ranchers and Farmers with less than 10 years of experience qualify for the program. The beginning ranchers and farmers program will be three years that include annual and quarterly events, annual and quarterly curriculum.

  • Assessing soil, water, and climate zones
  • Developing your business plan and mission
  • Financing options for first time farmers; Microloans and USDA Loans
  • Management Techniques for vertebrate pests, weeds and insects
  • Marketing your produce “Farm to Fork” to chefs; extending the season
  • Local, State, County and District Resources & website tools
  • Certificate programs and niche marketing from CSA’s to Casinos
  • Record keeping tools and cash flow analysis to obtain financing
